Google Hangouts

GOOGLE HANGOUTS

INTRODUCTION

Google used to have different messaging systems operating at the same time; They were not integrated. They decided to change all that at a Google conference on May 15, 2013. The result was the birth of Google Hangouts.

On February 16, 2015 they did away with Google Talk as a separate function and merged all phone, audio, and video communication into Google Hangouts.

  • Audio and video can be unstable.
  • Often, there is a lag in the streaming.
  • Invitations are basic email or Google + messages - no professional templates.
  • There are no persuasive marketing features like offer popups or interactive polls.
  • There are no analytics that are vital to marketing.
  • You cannot be seen by people while you share your screen.
  • It is a bare bones platform, not ideal for laser targeted marketing.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Google Hangouts are great for impromptu meetings. People in different parts of the world can instantly join a hangout and share information.  A business leader could rally the troops for an urgent meeting. There’s no need for anyone to take minutes because the Hangout is recorded and archived.

Serious marketers will find Google Hangouts lacking for presentations designed to sell products, services, and coaching. This is definitley not the tool to use to make high end, high converting offers.
